I saw one of these work great on an antelope, but will not work on elk. I purchased an E-Z Zip and did not get 3 inches into the hide of an elk. It snapped into 2 pieces.

2 Stars My two cents
I originally bought this knife from a gun show here in California for $50 OTD (out-the-door) new made in Taiwan and it came in a blue box. Bought another one from here, Amazon, thinking it would be the same but its not. The version from Amazon is made in China and comes in plastic blister packing. Overall construction of the two versions are similar but not exactly the same nor do they open the same. Placement of the thumb stud, higher on the blade, Taiwan version is better for the thumb when exerting pressure downward on the blade IMO. Logo printing on blade and pocket clip are clearer/better on the Taiwan version. Blade release works fine for both finger and thumb stud on the Taiwan version. China version requires the strength of Godzilla’s son to release the blade with a finger, release with the thumb stud is noticeably slower.

The internal release mechanism needs to be reworked if your so inclined otherwise I feel overall the Taiwan version to be superior even at the higher price. Blade quality is lower than that of Spyderco and others but IMO the serrations need to cover more area on this Gerber. A smooth blade will get dull fast with a utility knife IMO, the serrated part of the blade is needed for most cutting.

Unique and bargain priced perhaps. Highly functional, no.

4 Stars Solid Folding Knife
Overall I would say this is a pretty good knife. The spring assist definitely allows the blade to flip open fast. The only thing that bothers me is that the package states that it can be used with either left or right hand. This is true to some degree. There is a thumb notch on both sides of the blade. But the saftey is only on the side accessible to the right hand thumb. If you keep the saftey off when carrying the knife, this probably isn’t an issue. If you’re like me and keep the saftey on until use, it becomes a right hand only knife.

5 Stars Best Knife I’ve Ever Owned!
The Gerber FAST Draw is a very good knife. The handle is made of glass-filled nylon zytel (very comfortable and a great grip in your hand). The blade is made of high-carbon surgical stainless steel and comes very sharp straight from the factory and right out of the box. To open: Press the safety button up, and then either push the thumbstud out, or, use the flipper on the back of the handle. The blade will then spring into the open position and will lock automatically. To close the blade, hold the safety button up, then push the blade down with your fingers. The blade opens very quickly and when Gerber tested it against automatic knives, (not Gerber automatics), the FAST draw deployed its blade faster than the automatic knives deployed theirs. Meaning that this knife is faster than some automatic knives. When you open the blade, it locks with an impressive “click”, and the blade is very sharp, sharp enough to cut anything that you would need to.

The FAST draw is an extremely high-quality knife and I highly recommend it!

At first I was disappointed with the spring action on this knife and considered returning it. But now that the knife is broken in and I have gotten used to opening action, I have become very happy with it. The blade is sharp and opens easily with one hand.

I have the serrated and non-serrated models and they are both excellent knives.

Gerber blades come sharp from the factory and, unless you are a purist like me, rarely need a touch-up.

The lock prevents the knife from opening (and closing) when you don’t want it to. The scales are of good materials; however, I still prefer those found on the Gator series knives as they prevent your hand from slipping.

All in all, a very good product from Gerber.

LED lights are incredible-they use hardly any power, yet kick out a huge amount of light for their size. They’re reliable too, as the LEDs themselves are built inside a solid case, making them more durable than incandescent lights with their easily-shattered glass bulbs. And consider this: while the average incandescent bulb may last 50,000 hours-at best-before it burns out, an LED can last 100,000 hours or more.

Like many other manufacturers, Gerber has started offering a line of LED flashlights, including the Infinity Ultra Task. In addition to the durability and longevity you get via the LED bulbs, this little light features epoxy-coated circuitry, which means its insides won’t fall to pieces if you drop it or accidentally smack it against a rock. According to the manufacturer, the Infinity Ultra is waterproof down to 10 feet, too.

Though the Infinity Ultra’s beam is very bright for its size, this is not the best flashlight for navigating unlit country roads at night or for exploring abandoned warehouses-in these cases you’d want more than the 30-foot beam you get with this light. It is perfect for camping, however, where its durability, small size, and light weight make it ideal for hauling in a pack and illuminating a tent.

This little LED is a great one. As with all LED lights, the flashlight is very bright, and will not use up batteries quickly. It’s small enough to easily fit in a pocket, throws a lot of usable light, seems very rugged and well made.

This light is the best money I’ve ever spent on a flashlight. I’ve owned it over two years now, and it’s fantastic for what it’s designed for. No, it won’t replace a big light when that’s what you need. But as a task light or for travel, going down a dark path or carrying in your purse or pocket, it just can’t be beat.

Believe me, I tried. I bought a bunch of cheaper small LED lights. Probably spent over $30 total on them. After a few weeks, they all failed — mostly in the switches. I finally broke down and spent the money for two of these when my husband and I were going on a 60-night tent camping trip. It seemed ridiculous to spend this much on such a small flashlight. In the long run, they’ve been the cheapest flashlights we’ve owned — we haven’t had to replace them, and they don’t drain batteries.

These lights still work perfectly after more than two years. That’s important, because when I need a flashlight, I need it to work. And these are the perfect size to keep at hand — you can stick it in your pocket, purse, glove compartment, camera case or hang it around your neck. AND they give off good light — plenty to see the ground ahead of you, change a tire, read a map, find a favorite toy under the car seat, remove a splinter from your husband’s hand, set up a tent, check the coffee water to see if it’s boiling.

If you use a lithium battery in it, it lasts forever. Remember that 60-night camping trip? I used one battery through that whole trip PLUS several shorter trips and other miscellaneous times around the house. It was over a year before I replaced the battery.

I’ve now bought several more to give as gifts.

5 Stars Great Little Task Light
This is a great little minimalist task light. It fits in the palm of your hand and provides enough light see what you are doing. The base screw-in is the “on/off” switch, which means there are no buttons to break. In addition, if you loosen the base just past the point the light goes off, you can press on the base to turn it on/off without having to twist. The build quality seems excellent and it isn’t too heavy.

This little flashlight works better than expected. I do alot of work in crawlspaces and attics’ as well as needing to see behind entertainment centers, couches, ect. This flashlight is small enough to fit in my front pocket so i have it anywhere and the clip it comes with slides over the bill of my ball cap or hard hat and stays in place. INSTANT HEADLIGHT. It provides enough light for me to do what i gotta do and keeps my hands free to do my job. It’s more convenient than the company provided headlamp or any other headlamp i’ve used and keeps me from having to carry a headlamp and another flashlight. If you’re looking for something to light up a whole room, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for something to light your immediate area and small enough to carry anywhere, this light will work perfectly.

5 Stars Great knife!
No major issues with this knife at all. A couple of people have made note of it begin too heavy. Don’t let this deter you in any way. Anybody who thinks this knife is too heavy has either been using knives made of ultra-light aluminum or Styrofoam. This knife is NOT too heavy; doesn’t even come close to being “heavy”. I’ve been carrying it in my pocket, via the clip, and have had to reach down and make sure it was there on more than one occasion. When I think of a heavy folder, I think of the old Buck that I carried through my teens and into my 20’s. That was a heavy knife and still is to this day. This Gerber is nowhere near that Buck as far as weight goes.

This knife opens very easily with the finger flip and a snap of the wrist. Anybody with experience using lock back folders will find this more than easy to flip open. The major difference between this (and most modern frame lock knives) is the lock mechanism itself. I haven’t had a lot of experience with the new locking knives so, out of the package, it took about 30 minutes to find out how to close it since no instructions were included. The thumb stud works great when not in a rush to open the knife. the finger flip opens it just enough to “grab” the stud and slide it open the rest of the way. The knife was pretty dull at first, but a couple quick slides with the sharpener and I was happy with the edge. No, I can’t shave with it yet, but hopefully it’ll eventually get there. I did notice a couple of small chips on the edge but can’t be sure if they were there already or maybe I pressed too hard in that spot when sharpening.

Bottom line, this is a great knife at an outstanding price. If you’re looking for a good self defense/combat folder or just an everyday knife, I highly recommend giving this one consideration.

Brutish, not an elegant opening or closing mechanism. I really hate these dumb laws forbidding automatic knives which are causing the market to be flooded with junk like this. It’s hard on the fingers to open and feels crumby and clumsy when it sets open rubbing against the metal below the knife. How is it it’s legal to own and shoot a gun in self defense, but not a knife? Someone please get rid of these dumb anti-self-defense government laws, it’s sickening. And if anyone is going to argue that this is child safe, it’s not, because opening it is the easiest part, figuring out how to close it (there are no instructions) is the harder dangerous part if some child were to try.

5 Stars Great thin durable knife
I purchased the knife to take overseas for deployment to Afghanistan. It’s low profile, fits in the back pocket of the Army ACUs nicely and can be employed quickly from there as a backup or utility knife. I can sit down with the knife in that pocket and not even know it is there. It has held up nicely and I would recommend it to anyone needing a good basic knife for a variety of needs that doesn’t take up a lot of pocket space.

This is my second Gerber and my new favorite. Not a fan of the pocket clip, so I used a T6 to remove that. The grip is fantastic, very sure and comfortable. The one-handed operation is excellent. Yes, it is heavy, but the stainless steel frame is also extremely solid. I’m not that skilled at honing steel, so the straight facets of the tanto blade are a real plus for maintaining a sharp edge. Highly recommended.

I bought this knife from rei, lightweight and balanced, full tang blade with a good solid feel to it. I have a kabar next generation fighting knife for camping, but I needed something lighter for backpacking. This one is light and simple but tough enough to stand up to whatever the back country can throw at you.

5 Stars My loyal Companion
I bought this knife four years ago, and haven’t bought another knife since. This knife has been through a lot with me. Power outages, camping trips, etc. I love this knife so much! It has never lost a screw, and the handle is made of compressed fibers, which is soft unlike metal, so you can use it for hours without your hand hurting. The handle is very, very durable, as well as the blade. It is easy to open, and locks out firm when it is open. I have had it for 4 years, and it is still without wiggle! I recommend this knife to anybody!

The liners are a little thin. Other than that it is acceptable, but the price is just too high.

You can get a better Chinese knife from Spyderco’s “Byrd” brand for about half the price of this Gerber Armor.

3 Stars Does the job
It took some getting used to the wood handle, but I’ve grown to love it. I rated it 3 stars only because I’ve found that the tanto blade isn’t really practical for me. I typically use pocket knives to open netflix envelops, letters, and such. There isn’t much of a straight edge on the knife because of the space taken by the tanto tip so it takes extra effort to keep your slice on the straight edge. Other than that, it’s a great knife. It’s a little bigger than I expected so when it’s deployed it’s quite the eye catcher.

This knife by far is the greatest and most durable Tactical EDC. (every day carry for those that arent so knife savy) I have used it to cut everything from the mail, opening canned goods, and battoning logs in the woods. It is an amazingly durable knife. Very corrosive resistant. I accidentally lost it in a damp and muddy crawlspace for over a month. When I recovered it, no rust no damage. It holds and edge very well. I would recomend this knife to anyone that needs a good one.

2 Stars Too many drawbacks
I was debating whether or not to give this knife a 2 or 3 out of 5 — the source of conflict being whether a poorly designed knife should be rated higher because it’s inexpensive. My conclusion is that at any price the negatives of the Gerber Mini-Fast Draw simply outweigh the positives. First the positives.

Though it required a little time to break in, the knife flicks open easily and smoothly. Once open the knife feels solid and fits pretty well in my smallish hands. It’s small, light, and portable–which really was the main reason I bought it; I wanted a small knife I could carry in my pocket every day. Unfortunately, the Mini-Fast Draw turned out not to be that knife (for reasons I’ll explain in one second) and the search continues.

Now the negatives. Out of the box, the handle/grip had absorbed some of the lubricant and became slick and oily — precisely the opposite characteristics you want in a grip. That was remedied by rubbing it with a towel, but it didn’t solve the fact that the grip itself just isn’t very grippy. It’s textured in a way that allows your fingers to slide down the length of the handle. Closing the knife is very awkward with one hand, and while not a deal-breaker, safe and easy one-handed closing would’ve been a plus. This knife was not particularly sharp out of the box and the tip was slightly dulled. Of course all knives can be sharpened but it’s nice when the company saves you the trouble. The BIGGEST drawbacks for me are the thumbstuds, which are fairly long and rather pointed. This design facilitates opening, but when the knife is clipped inside a pocket (particularly a small pocket) the thumbstuds tend to catch on the fabric of your pants as you draw it out, and if the safety switch is accidentally disengaged the knife can open prematurely. The pocket clip itself is definitely too small, and between the small clip and protruding thumbstuds it’s more difficult than it needs to be to clip the knife inside a little pocket in my pants or to take it out.

I may be in the minority with these gripes but these are the things keeping it out of my pocket, on the shelf, and leaving a void where $20 used to be. Better small pocketknives can be had for the same price ~ I have another (old) Gerber which is similar in size and superior in almost every way.

The good – Fit and finish are first rate. The blade is sharp, and the detailing is nice.

The bad – The clip is too stiff. You should bend it to go onto, and grip whatever you are going to clip it to. The clip is removeable, but it’s obvious that it’s missing if you do that.

The unsafe – The blade is spring-loaded to open like a switchblade with a little push from your thumb. While there is a safety, it’s easy to accidently release it when it’s in your pocket.

The inconvenient – welded clamshell packaging means that when you open it and find out that it sucks, you don’t really feel right about sending it back

Pay attention, this knife is SMALL – maybe 2.5″ blade, which makes it a little tough to handle given it’s spring-loaded blade design

So it’s a neat toy, but you’re probably not going to want this in your pocket every day. I clipped this one to my trunk lining in my car. It might come in handy sometime. I originally bought it as a gift for my brother, but while repackaging it for gift-wrapping, I played around with it and decided to buy him a Case like mine.

This knife was surprisingly small when it arrived but I’ve come to love the size over time. At first, the spring action opening is tricky and maybe a little sandy/dusty. After awhile it flips open very nicely and easily after you are used to it. It also holds an edge very well and the serrated part does its job well. The grip is good and I very much like the safety button.
