Cold Steel Safe Maker Safe Maker I Cold Steel has been making push knifes for a quarter century. In those twenty five years we have continually been refining our designs discarding features that didn’t performa as well as we would have liked and enhanc

3 Stars Bigger than it looks!
I purchased the Safe Maker I and received it quickly. I knew the minute I saw it that it was too big to be very practical. The length would also give it more of a tendency to roll in the hand. The craftsmanship was good, and I like the Cold Steel brand, but I would recommend something smaller, the image can be deceiving. Also, I checked local law, (CA) and this thing could get you a felony in my state. But a giant folding knife is fine. Doesn’t make much sense, but check your laws before you buy.

4 Stars A Collector’s Piece, Really
My review basically agrees with the previous review. Although I had read up on the Safe Maker I and knew it’s dimensions, seeing it in person and holding it in your hands is a different matter. I, too, feel it’s a bit too big to be practical as the stealth weapon it’s meant to be. Kinda wish I’d gone for the Safe Maker II instead. That said, though, this is a beautifully-made knife, solid and well-crafted. More of a conversation/collector piece than a carry knife.

Also, be advised that it is not easy to pull this thing out of the sheath. Good in that it certainly won’t fall out at inopportune times. Bad in that, should you find yourself in sudden need, you may end up having to tell ‘concerned parties’ to, “Hang on a minute, I’ll be right with you… ”

Cold Steel Recon 1 Spear Point 50/50, Cold Steel is famous for raising the bar in the knife industry and their Recon 1 tactical folders are sure to set a higher standard that will be hard to beat. They are tough as nails and will cut like a chain saw. Every facet of their construction has been over engineered to make them as strong, durable and effective as humanly possible. The blade is made out of 440A Sub Zero Quenched stainless steel and the handles are thick Zytel, massively reinforced by heat-treated steel liners and five locking bolts. To compliment their super tough blades and handles it features a revolutionary Ultra Lock, which practically precludes lock failure. Each blade has a tough black Teflon finish which offers three major advantages for use on tactical blades. The first is it is highly resistant to scratches and abrasions while keeping rust at bay. The second is it eliminates glare and light reflections which may give its user away. The third is it’s a superior lubricant, which causes the blade to slip through even tough material with markedly less friction. This means you can cut deeper and far longer than with a non-Teflon coated blade. Each Recon 1 is equipped with a small, extra strong pocket clip. This clip is completely ambidextrous so lefties take note. That’s more its diminutive size doesn’t abrade and irritate the palm under protracted use like a larger clip would. No Sheath. Specifications: -Spear Point 50/50 -Blade: 4″ -Handle: 5 1/3″ -Overall Length: 9 1/3″ -Blade Thickness: 1/8″ -Weight: 5.7 oz. -Steel: AUS 8A Stainless Steel -Zytel handle and black stainless steel pocket clip, Mfg No: 27LSH, Manufacturer: Cold Steel, Warranty: Cold Steel stands behind their knives 100%. The fixed blade sheath knives have a five-year warranty to the original owner against defects in materials or workmanship. The folding knives are warranted for one year.

3 Stars silght problem
Yes, the knife is heavy duty. Made from first rate materials. I have no doubt that it would cut a hole in the floor of your car if need be. The thing I do not like about it is that when it is in the closed position the blade does not have enough spring tension against it to hold the blade firmly closed. Mine will rock open about 1/2 inch which is enough to catch on your pocket and cut your clothing or you when withdrawn. Worse yet, it could become jammed and not be pulled out at all.

5 Stars All around good knife
I really like this knife its strong, reliable, and sharp. Mine is easy to oppen with either right or left hand and stays closed firm in my pocket. I am impressed enough to recomend the cold steel 27LSH recon 1 spear point to any one who appreciats a good knife.

5 Stars Believe the hype.
Cold Steel promotes their knives as the strongest and sharpest availible, and I can’t argue with them. I’ve collected knives over 20 years, and this knife is easily the best all-around pocketknife I’ve ever carried. It looks good, and will easily take care of any reasonable cutting task one would use a pocketknife for. If you stumble across something this blade won’t take care of, you probably need a chainsaw instead. Definitely worth every penny.

Cold Steel Rajah II, The Rajah folders, designed by Andrew Demko, are big enough to approximate the feel and heft a fixed blade Kukri. Their broad, downward curved blades exhibit the best of a Kukris characteristics. First, their unique shape presents their thin, hollow ground edges at just the right angle so they naturally bite deep instead of bouncing or skidding off. And secondly their points are thick, wide and sharp enough to pierce even the toughest targets. The handle has some of the contours of fixed blade Kukris with the addition of strategically placed curves and finger grooves. These features will facilitate 3 grip styles. The only suitable lock that can sustain the incredible impact forces generated by chopping strokes with a Rajah folder is our new Tri-Ad lock. Designed specifically to take pressure off the smaller, more fragile interlocking surfaces of a rocker lock and transfer them to a uniquely positioned stop pin that will absorb and distribute these forces through the handle frame. The Rajah II is truly a custom quality knife. Its handle frame and integral bolsters are CNC machined from a 7075 Aluminum billet to secure the black G-10 handle scales. And its built tough enough to endure countless hours of hard, brutal work. Specifications: – Blade: 6″ – Overall: 14″ – Weight: 12.7 oz. – Thick: 5.3mm, Mfg No: 62KG, Manufacturer: Cold Steel

Cold Steel Koga SD Mini Koga SD2, Bob Koga began his martial arts career at an early age beginning with Judo at 12 and moving on to wrestling in high school. After graduation Bob joined the Air Force, and while stationed in Japan, he resumed his Judo training as well as studying Jiu Jitsu, Jo-do and Akido. After finishing his stint in the Air Force, Bob moved to Los Angeles where he joined the LAPD and served with great distinction for 25 years. During his tenure with the LAPD, Bob became widely recognized as an outspoken proponent of the straight baton as opposed to the PR24 or side handle baton (currently popular in departments across the land). Upon retirement, Bob launched a second career as a police trainer who specialized in teaching officers how to control and subdue violent offenders using empty hands as well as with the famous Koga Straight Baton. In the course of his career Bob witnessed and participated in many street fights and violent altercations. These experiences taught him that there was a real need for a small, light, easily concealed self-defense tool that could bridge the gap between using empty hands and the more dangerous baton. These insights led him to create the Koga SD1. Made of virtually unbreakable plastic, the SD1 can increase the ability of the average person to defend himself several times over. With proper training, it can function as a fantastic aid in leverage when obtaining joint locks or submission holds. But where it really shines is as an intermediate impact tool. You see, police and civilians alike face a perplexing dilemma when contemplating employing fist or baton blows. Blows struck with the fist may be too weak, or worse, result in a broken hand, while blows struck with a baton may be too powerful resulting in grave injury or even death. The SD1 however, solves this problem, neatly bridging the gap by concentrating and magnifying the effect of hand blows while minimizing the likelihood of permanent injury or death. If you’r

5 Stars Def. tactics
The Koga, along with a Kuboton is a great tool for teaching women defensive tactics in what has become a more dangerous world. Used properly, it can save a life, although situational awareness is most important.

5 Stars Good item, for what is is.
This is an inexpensive, simple to use defensive tool.

Small and light enough to carry loose in a pocket – simple enough to employ under stress. (Get a good grip on it, then stab hard at whatever you can reach.)

This is obviously NOT some “miracle” device that makes the owner invinceable – but it CAN be a usefull option in some situations.

Cold Steel has been making good stuff for several years.

5 Stars Strong and light
I ordered this for my daughter who is away at school. I found it to be of very good quality, strong but light to hold, and easily hidden in a pocket. She said she would definitely keep it with her when she is out walking for exercise.

5 Stars Can’t beat the price.
Negatives:

Made out of a resin plastic.

Positives:

Made out of a resin plastic . I’m not trying to be cute, it depends on what you’re looking for. VERY tough resin, this little thing is capable of serious damage. Very cheap (I paid more for shipping than the weapon itself). Small, easlily fits in a pocket or bag.

Recommend it?

Yes. Cold Steel does it again (one of my favorite companies). Well worth the money. This little thing would be devastating if used in a hammer fist, potentially lethal in a spinning backfist. It’s a weapon, pure and simple, and needs to be treated like one.

1 Star Know the concealed weapon laws before carrying this.
There’s no use for this except as a weapon. Cops won’t be happy if you have one on you. Self-defense might make no difference to the judge. Instead – get a flashlight like a Mini-Maglite AA, about the proper size of a yawara stick. Then, when you are asked why you smashed it into the throat of the (censored) who came at you with a knife, you can say. “Well, your Honor, all I had to defend myself with was my flashlight.”

Cold Steel Nightshade Series Jungle Dart, Black as a moonless night, silent as the grave, and totally undetectable-these are the qualities that make up the lightweight Nightshade series. Made from Grivory – the latest in fiberglass reinforced plastic, and stronger than even the super tough Zytel – they are UV and heat stabilized, making them impervious to the elements. One of the most unique features of these knives is their handles. They are made from deeply checkered Kraton that has been molded directly to the blade tangs. The use of Kraton in knife handles is a Cold Steel innovation that dates back to the early 1980’s. It has been readily copied by most of their competitors because it offers a superior, slightly tacky gripping surface that is unaffected by heat, cold, or moisture. It never rusts, warps, cracks or splits even in the most extreme environments. The Nightshade knives are light enough to be tied, tucked, or taped just about anywhere on one’s person. And, since they are impervious to heat, cold, moisture and extreme weather they are a natural to hide both inside and outside your house. They can be hidden virtually everywhere from the hedges and flowerpots in your yard, to the refrigerator, bookshelves, and closets in your house. Keep one in every room of the house, from the laundry room to the bathroom shower! With violent home invasions on the rise a strategically placed Nightshade could save the day, and even your life. Cold Steel The Spike Scottish Spike, The Spike, designed by Barry Dawson, is a weapon pared down to its bare essentials. Its thick, narrow blade is distal tapered and flat ground to a zero edge. This creates a unique cross section that facilitates both penetration of the tip and cutting power previously unknown in such a thick, narrow blade. The integral handle of The Spike compliments its minimalist theme. It has been carefully shaped out of solid steel, wrapped with cord and had all of its sharp edges melted so they dont irritate the hand. Each spike comes with a sturdy Secure-Ex sheath and steel bead lanyard so you can wear it around your neck or lash it to a D ring, fanny pack, or other gear.53SDS Scottish Spike Specifications: – Weight: 2.5 oz – Thick: 7/32″ (5.75mm) – Blade:3 1/2″ – Handle: 3 1/2″ long. Cold Steel Nightshade Series Karambit, Black as a moonless night, silent as the grave, and totally undetectable-these are the qualities that make up the lightweight Nightshade series. Specifications: – Weight: 2.3 oz. – Thick: 7.5mm – Blade: 4″ – Handle: 4 1/2″ long. – Material: Grivory with Kraton grip – Overall: 8 1/2″, Mfg No: 92FK, Manufacturer: Cold Steel, Warranty: Cold Steel stands behind their knives 100%. The fixed blade sheath knives have a five-year warranty to the original owner against defects in materials or workmanship. The folding knives are warranted for one year.

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Undecided
I’ve just received this knife and after removing it from the package I wore the point of the tip off by simply trying to cut the plastic packing from around the receipt. I was highly disappointed in so easily permanently damaging the tip with such a menial task. And due to the material it doesn’t seem like it is likely able to be sharpened.

On the other hand, it seems like it would be good for self defense or possibly gardening/yard type tasks – suitable for hard plastic.

So – undecided. At least it was cheap.

5 Stars cold steel in plastic
I became interested in the Karambit(Kerambit) style knives after reading a book by Steve Perry (The Musashi Flex). I now have several of them and this one is all one piece plastic, very tough and very sharp! If I were not so old I would certainly be taking classes in knife fighting in this style. I collect silent weapons and will have more of these in the future!

3 Stars Like a plastic ghost in the night
So “totally undetectable” sounds like a must-have feature on just about any tactical knife, karambit, throwing chakram, or boxcutter you might be considering as a daily carry.

However, my personal experience has taught me that “totally undetectable” also means you’re completely screwed if you ever misplace the thing.

“So what?” you might be thinking. “This little plastic slasher is under $10. I can afford to lose a few of them.” Well, that isn’t the case if you happened to put the only set of keys to your Subaru Outback on the convenient pommel keyring. Now I can’t find them either.

In conclusion, this knife is like a friend who at first you think is totally cool and into martial arts, but then turns out to never be around when you need a favor and who also steals your car.

4 Stars Excellent Product
This is a great tool, especially for the self-defense purposes. I admit I was put off initially, as I am sure many others are, because of its’ light weight and pastic-ish appearance. But that just shows my ignorance. It does the job very well, and I have had no problems with it. I wouldn’t use it for every-day use, like cutting stuff and what not, but for self-defense purposes it is worth its’ weight in gold.

5 Stars Personal Protection Perfection
The title says it all. This Nightshade series of knives are meant for one thing and one thing only. PERSONAL PROTECTION, they are not meant for cutting or anything you might use an actual metal blade for. They are for ripping and stabbing. PERIOD. And this they will do quite well. I have these placed in my showers and various other places around my house. I love these knives. If you are trying to use these knives to cut anything at all you are not the brightest light bulb in the box. Thats all. I am planning on buying the whole collection.

Cold Steel Bird & Trout, The Bird and Trout knife is a modern version of a 100 year old classic, treasured by hunters and fishermen for generations. The secret to its enduring popularity is its ultra slim profile, and unique all steel construction. The skeletonized handle offers great versatility and freedom of movement. It’s perfect for working in tight places or making precise cuts. The ring allows the knife to hang from the little finger when not in use and yet remain instantly available. For safety and handiness, this knife comes with a stout, yet lightweight Kydex neck sheath and paracord lanyard. Specifications: -Weight: 0.8 oz. -Blade Thickness: 2.6 mm -Blade Length: 2 1/4″ -Handle: 4 1/16″ long -Steel: AUS 6A Stainless Steel -Overall Length: 6 3/16″ -Concealex neck sheath, Mfg No: 20BTJ, Manufacturer: Cold Steel, Warranty: Cold Steel stands behind their knives 100%. The fixed blade sheath knives have a five-year warranty to the original owner against defects in materials or workmanship. The folding knives are warranted for one year.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Always there. Often enough.
The CS B&T is small but quite functional. It is about six & a half inches overall, weighs about one ounce and the sharp part is not quite two and a half inches. So this knife is not intended for heavy work. But it is surprising how much “camp”, “survival” or “bush-craft” style work the CS B&T IS good for. With it, you can cut saplings for shelter building, notch tent-pegs, whittle a trigger for a snare, make fuzz-sticks for fire-starting or gut & clean fish / small game.

I am not saying that the CS B&T is the best possible knife for these tasks. Obviously, some of them would be more easily done with a Ka-Bar or Becker Brute. Cutting saplings, for example, will take some time and patience. But you can get the job done and – unlike the “wire saws” sometimes recommended for this kind of work – the CS B&T won’t break half way through the job. The point is that you can make do with it and it is small enough to keep with you.

The size and unique design of the CS B&T are its beauty. The CS B&T is always there, easily accessible, instantly. You don’t have to dig in pockets, fumble around with opening a sheath, or open the blade. It is just there, available to either hand. Slip your fourth finger through that loop, pull it from its sheath, and you are ready to go to work. Unlike most small knives you don’t have to worry about being able to securely hold onto it. It virtually attaches itself to your hand and will not slip while you are working with it. Nor will it fold up on you – ever.

Snugged into its “Kydex” blade sheath on a neck lanyard, the CS B&T makes a nice central “jewel” in a “survival necklace” that I often wear. The blade sheath comes supplied with a beaded stainless steel chain for a “lanyard” (nice). I have replaced this with a doubled and whip-knotted length of 550 cord (about 10 feet total). Also attached are a split ring with Fox 40 whistle, Photon Freedom LED light, and Spark Lite flint wheel with four Tinder Quick fire-tabs (secured under a broad-cut “ranger band” cut from a bike tube). See my uploaded product images. The total weight is about 3 oz.

I live in a rural (some might say wilderness) area and carry a good knife plus multi-tool when headed out the back door. But even with those along, I often reach for the CS B&T first. And in many cases, it proves to be enough. I suspect that if you get one your experience will be the same.

On top of all else, this is a great little knife for the money. Cold Steel makes quality stuff.

5 Stars Great knife
This is a fantastic knife, as are most of cold steels knifes, great gift.

this is my second bird & trout knife, the other is the carbon 5 which they unfortunately no longer make. you won’t be unhappy. great design.

4 Stars Cold Steel Bird and Trout Knife Review
I was very happy with this knife when I first purchased it from Amazon, however there is one large problem with this little knife – it comes out of it’s sheath on it’s own when I am bending and lifting stuff. It is dangerous to have a sharp blade sliding down your abdomen under your shirt, what if you don’t notice and bend over at just the wrong time?

I bought this to wear all the time so it would always be handy – I won’t wear it at all now until I figure out a way to keep it from popping out.

It is a great idea, and a fine little knife. Super lightweight so you hardly notice it when you’re wearing it, but it needs a positive retention mechanism to make it safe to wear when working.

Example: Today I was restocking shelves and handling boxes of canned goods – I had forgotten all about the little knife until it fell down my shirt an clattered at my feet – I assume I must have balanced a box against my chest and that dragged against the knife and freed it from it’s sheath.

Be aware of that before you purchase this item.

Cold Steel AK-47 Knife, In 1947, Mikhil Kalashnikov, the legendary Russian gun designer, created the AK-47 assault rifle. Eventually adopted by the Red Army in 1949, it became famous as the “People’s Rifle”. Such renown was not unwarranted, as it was utterly reliable, rugged, simple to operate and maintain, economical, and effective at reasonable ranges. This weapon, and all it represents became the inspiration for Cold Steel’s newest heavy-duty tactical knife, the AK-47 Folder. Designed by Andrew Demko, the AK-47 possesses all of the attributes of its namesake, and perhaps a few more. Built for hard and rugged use, the AK-47’s handle is made with thick aircraft grade aluminum scales that are bolted to steel liners, this creates a robust grip that is remarkable tough, rigid, and incomparably strong. The grip is also equipped with a unique pommel. Made of Grivory, the pommel features two lanyard holes, and can serve as a “less than lethal” percussion tool in a self-defense situation. The hollow ground blade has been honed by hand until it reaches levels of sharpness only seen on a surgeon’s scalpel. It’s made from Japanese AUS 8A stainless steel, then vacuum heat treated, and sub zero quenched to make it as tough and rugged as humanly possible. To complement such an exceptional blade, we have equipped the AK-47 with Ultra Lock locking mechanism. With the latest refinements and testing, this lock has proven itself to be equal, perhaps even superior, to any other lock on the market in terms of strength and shock resistance. Finally, to assure easy access, and swift operation, the AK-47 comes with an ambidextrous pocket clip and thumb plate. The thumb plate has a dual purpose, it allows the knife to be drawn and quickly opened by snagging it on the edge of a pocket or it can be used like a conventional thumb stud for easy one-handed opening. Specifications: – Blade: 4″ – Overall: 10″ – Thick: 4mm – Weight: 7.8oz –

4 Stars When you absolutely, positively need a knife… except no substitute
If you want a hefty folder, this is the knife for you. Don’t let the 3 inch measurement fool you, this knife is big enough to scare the neighbors. I own several Cold Steel knives and have drooled over this one for a number of years. This version has an aluminum handle, which is quite a bit darker in color than the photo, and a bead-blast finish, there is a black G-10 version but I wouldn’t waste the extra money. The lanyard on the pommel is a little unnecessary, but it does give the knife more of a pistol-grip feel. The slide lock design takes a little getting used to when, like me, you are used to liner locks. Over all, this knife might be too big for an everyday carry(a matter of opinion)but would make a spectacular survival knife and it’s as durable as a tank, and resembles one as well.

4 Stars too much mojo
i got this knife today from my local store, not from this seller. but i can say that this one is 50 bucks cheaper than what i paid (after shipping, maybe 30). i have to say, this is a rad knife. it’s got that benchmade lock (the axis, or whatever cold steel calls theirs), with the power and utility of a gator. this is a large knife, but its not too big to carry on you. a little on the heavier side, but i havent weighed it. not too much over 4 ounces i should guess. don’t quote me tho. it’s got that emerson pocket hook goin on, which makes it open out the pocket, which is nice (but it does rip ur pocket up…don’t overdo it ;p).AUS 8 steel, good choice, and to remove that pesky threat of corrosion, they even bead-blasted it. all in all, i feel prepared for anything with this knife, be it box or bear.

5 Stars Great first impression
This knife is one of the best buys out there. I carry this on me all the time. It has some good wieght to it, fits in the hand well, and is perfect self defense (granted you know how to use it for those purposes). It is able to slash through a pair of jeans with a ham inside (to simulate a clothed human leg) without losing grip on the handle. The clip on the side can be be attached on either side of the knife to make it easy for left handed users as well. The blade is fairly short but it make no difference in the overall effectivness, the is also a blunt impact tool on the other end for situations that could call for that. There are two different types of this knife, this other has a polycarbon handle at a higher price, which I bought for my father in law. Its a better knife but you’ll pay more for it.

The synthetic Sjambok hits just as hard as the traditional Hippo hide version from Africa. This updated model combines heavier construction and a thicker Kraton handle to produce greater power and control. 42″ overall

5 Stars Fend off Moose Packs (Not)
I bought this to help fend off Moose packs when I walk in the wilderness. A moose once bit my sister…..no, really! Mind you moose bites can be quite nasty. In all seriousness, this is a great product for simple self defense, be it in the wild (not advised for wolves, rabid moose, or llamas)or a quiet suburb. It arrived a bit bent but that is quite ok with me. I imagine anything that flexes the way this thing does will end up a bit off from straight, yet it does not detract from it’s usefulness. I will advise that the only common flaw in any weapon is it’s user, so before you go swinging it around, make sure you understand that it can and will hurt if you hit someone.

5 Stars Excellent Bargain
I just received my 42″ Sjambok today in the mail and eagerly took it out for a trial spin while walking my dog. First, I have to say that the Cold Steel Sjambok is solid state in construction and very light. I carried it tucked under my arm like a swagger stick. The initial appearance is that of a riding crop on steroids. Not so obvious as to draw unwanted attention but certainly impressive enough to mean business.

I have been using a recently purchased Cold Steel African Walking Stick lately but wanted to give the new Sjambok a try. My first night out I was charged by a loose German Shepard in my neighborhood. I swished the stick about while yelling and the dog immediately backed off. I have no doubt that I could have effectively flayed the beast if necessary but the intimidation alone seemed sufficent.

So far, my initial impression is quite positive. This stick delivers exactly as advertised and seems impervious to destruction. It is light and quite pleasurable to carry while walking the suburbs. For those roaming off the beaten trail, a solid, load bearing stick like the African Walking Stick might be more suitable provided some good padded gloves are worn (see my previous review on that item).

In summary, no complaints on the Sjambok. It is exactly as described and very capable of being used for defensive purposes. I’m happy with my purchase and consider this a steal at the current price.

4 Stars Has its uses
I bought this on a whim but now am glad that I did. I hike a lot in desert country and really like this to sweep the grass and check for snakes. At 42 inches I am not sure this is good for any other critters but the flexibility and light weight makes me prefer it over trekking poles/walking staffs. Not recommended if you need something for stability.

2 Stars fend off wolf packs (not),
I bought this to fend off wolf packs when I walk in the wilderness. Once, I was attacked and couldn’t use this so I was severely bitten several times before a passerby scared the wolves with a loud horn. It’s not very good for fast attacking animals which are highly mobile and work in groups. Might be good for snakes or rabid skunks, but not much bigger. Probably worthless against an elephant.
